Very useful in its niche, but I'll go with the cheap knockoffs for something that has such a short lifespan. It has ball bearings on each end where cheaper products would probably have bushings. I reconnected the lead, blew out the switch and now it runs sweet. I was cleaning up some fiberglass and after about 10 minutes of use at high RPM it was too hot to hold. There is no plastic shaft that another reviewer mentions.
I rarely use them and even then just for short periods. Replaced the brushes the next day and it ran for about 5 more minutes before it was done. UPDATE: Given my Dremel wasn't working I disassembled it and found one of the wire leads was not properly connected. Shafts are metal. I've gone thru two of these Dremels.
I shut it down to cool off and it wouldn't start after that. The quality looks good.
I purchased this for my boyfriend who loves to build computers and always has a project going. Plus it is easier to get him to help me build things now. If your boyfriend or husband is interested in fixing, hacking, or building things this is a great tool. Ever since I bought it for him last year, I have received no complaints.
At this point I don't have a single pencil in my house with an eraser and all of the Sunday cartoon characters are faceless from their dremelling. My kids have found other uses for the dremel. I just haven't used it for anything other than the dog's nails. I bought this dremel to file the nails on my 2 large dogs. It works well for that purpose, assuming the dogs cooperate. I imagine this tool would work very well on other tasks as it has a nice variable speed.
I used it to cut some metal and sharpen my pruning shears. My dremel has come in handy at least 3 times since I have gotten it. I am very happy I got this tool.
Amazon is really going down the drain. Amazon I give 1 star, the Dremel 5 stars. THIS REVIEW IS FOR AMAZON NOT THE DREMEL: Amazon sent me a greasy and dirty obviously returned Dremel. This is not the first time they have sent me a used item.
